Math Me!
In Preschool, math is a fun, hands-on area of exploration for the children! They are beginning to learn how to write and recognize numbers, count, and apply their understanding of numbers to real world experiences.
*Numbers: Preschool children will be learn how to read and write numbers up to 20. Of course, we will challenge them to reach for higher numbers!
*Counting: Preschool children will be able to count orally. They will practice counting from 1 to 20 aloud, and if appropriate for their level, they will practice counting by ones, twos, fives, and tens. We also have a 100 Club for those who can count to 100!
*Comparing: The students will be able to compare numbers to each other to understand value. They will practice comparing objects to describe weight (lighter, heavier), length (shorter, longer, taller), and size (bigger, smaller).
*Patterns: Preschool students will be able to create, describe, and extend patterns.
*Grouping: The children will be able to make groups of objects. They will be able to sort, classify, and identify objects using different descriptions.
*Time: The students will make connections between themselves and time. They will be able to identify calendar time (yesterday, today, tomorrow, next week, last week), and parts of the day (morning, afternoon, evening). For those ready, we will practice identifying hourly time.
*Addition & Subtraction: The students will be introduced to the basic concepts of addition and subtraction. They will use real life examples and manipulatives to practice their understanding.
*Money: The preschool children will learn the value of and be able to recognize monetary units.
*3D Objects: Preschoolers will begin to relate and identify 3D objects to real world examples.
